Pencubitt House

Access Statement

Pencubitt House is situated on the southern edge of the Cornish market town of Liskeard. Ideally situated for touring all Cornwall and much of Devon. The house is a uniquely designed late Victorian villa built on the top of a small hill with 2 acres of sloping gardens. Unfortunately, we are unable to cater for children under 12 years, or pets.

Pencubitt House is a strictly ‘no-smoking’ environment.

Pre-Arrival

  • If using Sat Nav or GPS we are located at PL14 4EB, we are easily reached by the A38 and M5
  • We are situated ¼ mile South of Liskeard Railway Station, and are only a 5 minute walk away
  • Taxis and buses are readily available outside the train station
  • Liskeard town centre is an easy 15 minute walk from Pencubitt
  • Newquay Airport is a 45 minute drive from the Guest House

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • The hotel has 12 on site free parking spaces on white gravel
  • Assistance is provided wherever possible with parking and luggage
  • Vehicles may unload at the front door

Main Entrance & Reception

  • We have two front doors leading to Reception. An external porch door leading into a tiled vestibule, this has a single large step approx 13cm high. The main internal front door has a large single step approx 16cm high. A ramp is available on request
  • Once through the front doors the reception area is level with access to the bar, lounge, restaurant and cloakroom/WC
  • The reception desk is located to your right as you enter the front hall
  • On check in we will brief you on our evacuation policy on request
  • The dining room is located beside the Reception. It provides table service for both breakfast and evening meals
  • The lounge and bar are located to the left past the reception desk. There are french doors in the lounge area leading to a quarry tiled veranda and the garden lawns
  • Staff/proprietor are present 24hrs
  • The floor in the front hall is wooden and all other public areas are carpeted
  • Lighting is a combination of natural and low voltage electric light

Guest Public Areas - General (Internal)

  • The main hotel is three floors high and access to the 9 bedrooms is via a central staircase only
  • Toilet facilities to the right past the reception, are unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. The flooring is part carpeted and part old victorian tiles
  • There are a number of rugs located on the ground floor
  • We have a real open fire in the guest lounge, this can be lit on request
  • All Private areas are clearly marked as so

Guest Public Areas - (External)

  • The gardens are flat and level to the rear of the premises but slope steeply away to the front
  • The driveway from the front gate to the house is tarmac
  • There is garden seating overlooking the front lawn that guests can use at any time
  • There is limited external lighting to the driveway/parking areas
  • There are two sets of concrete steps leading down the two sloped lawns to the front of the property, please take care as these are not lit and can be slippery in winter time

Bedrooms

  • Rooms 1 to 5 are located on the first floor and are accessed via the wide central staircase (21 steps) and Rooms 6-9 are located on the second floor accessed via an internal narrower staircase opposite room 5 (18 steps)
  • We do not have any bedrooms on the ground floor
  • Every bedroom has an audible fire and smoke alarm
  • The bedrooms and bathrooms are all different sizes, some generously proportioned but some more compact and cosy
  • Emergency procedures are posted by the entrance door in each bedroom
  • Every bedroom has a television with remote control
  • Flooring in bedrooms is carpeting
  • Bedroom light switches are at the entrance to the room and also within the room and there are bedside lights
  • We provide non-allergenic duvets and pillows as standard, blankets on request
  • All rooms are non-smoking including bedrooms
  • Furniture within the rooms can only be moved by the Management team and only if requested
  • Bedroom 3 has an external decked balcony with bistro seating. In wet conditions, this will be slippery and care should be taken when in use

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC

  • All bathrooms are fitted with non-slip floor tiles or wooden floors
  • None of our bathrooms are wheelchair accessible
  • Some showers and baths have safety handles
  • Some rooms have bath and shower, shower in bath, bath or shower [see Room page for specific information]

Fire Precautions

  • There are a number of fire exits and fire points located around the house – please read your emergency procedures which are posted by the entrance door in each bedroom
  • We carry out regular fire alarm tests and will pre-advise you if one is planned during your stay, usually these will be between 11:30am and 12 noon on a Wednesday

Future Plans

  • This year we are planning to start a refurbishment programme in all guest areas and bedrooms and our website will be updated as we complete each room.
